Being Confident by Controlling Your Thoughts
What is the key to being confident?
One way is to control how you think about yourself.
“The man who believes he can do something is probably right, and so is the man who believes he can’t.” – Anonymous
I don’t think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good. I think of myself as someone who from an early age knew I was responsible for myself, and I had to make good.” – Oprah Winfrey
How do you view yourself?
This is critical to being confident. Do you think of yourself as smart, talented? Do you feel like you have something to offer the world? I think your success in life is based on how you think about yourself on a daily basis. Here’s why:
First, there is lots of non-verbal communication in our daily interactions and if you don’t believe in you, people can tell. This may make them feel like they don’t want to help you or give you new opportunities.
Second, when you lack confidence, you will not try things and will give up before you start. “I won’t call because they’ll just say no.” It becomes, in essence, a self-fulfilling prophecy. You think it won’t work, so it doesn’t. So today, think about, all day long, how you think about yourself. If most of your thoughts about yourself are negative, start to change the way you think and you will change. It’s an inside out process.
